New England Equal Longest Victory Run From Brady Era with Win Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five TDs during the current campaign
New England matched their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady period as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the New England squad notched an eighth straight win for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to cap the New York's first possession
But the New England answered in the second quarter as the rookie scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third period to make it 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the triumph
